The crowds surged around Amy and once again she wondered at the wisdom of venturing into Diagon Alley on this weekend. The best sales were around, but she didn't need to come here for that. The twins had begged her to let them come when all the other new students were going to be there and with Nellie's yearning gaze for one last glimpse at what she could have been had she not been born a squib, Amy couldn't refuse. Plus, at least with this many people around it would be extremely hard for any journalists to waylay them wanting some heart-wrenching quote from Nellie about how hard it was to leave her brother and go to muggle school.
But with her husband working overtime, it was up to her to keep on eye on her two children. She kept an eye on the two blonde heads bobbing up and down in front, and as they disappeared round a corner she shouted out.
"Nellie! Matthew! Wait there!"
When she found them again they were leaning against the wall of Flourish and Blotts, simultaneously rolling their eyes.
"Mum, we've been here a million times. We're not gonna get lost," Nellie said.
"I'm well aware of that - but weren't you going to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes?" Amy asked with a raised eyebrow. The guilty expressions confirmed her suspicions. She pointed at the door behind them. "Flourish and Blotts. Now. And since you know this place so well, why don't you find your own books?"
She followed them inside, making sure they were heading to the right part of the shop before allowing herself to relax slightly. Faces milled around her, some glancing at her a second time when they recognised her from the Prophet's recent article. Just a wand to go, but that was the part she was dreading most. Hopefully Nellie would cope okay.
