PARAGRAPH FORMAT :: Draco is very different to how he was in Hogwarts. He has lost the air of arrogance and replaced it with silent sombreness. When he is around his old schoolmates he tends not to speak much, preferring to listen and often just leaving if it turns into questioning him about what he's been up to for the last few years or his political leanings. Around his friends he is much more relaxed, letting his guard down in a way he never could before. He is a keen debater about political issues if he is with people he trusts and has recently taken to doing the same with his parents, trying to convince them that what they believe about muggles and squibs is all wrong.

Some of his old habits have remained, however. He has a taste for luxury and still has a preference for green and silver. He tries not to think about his old life much, hoping to leave it behind without confronting it anymore. He tends to get angry when people bring it up, because as far as he is concerned he is past that and it has been dragged up enough already.

The whole wizarding world knows what Draco got up to at Hogwarts. He was born to the pureblood families of Black and Malfoy so it was no surprise to anyone when he turned out arrogant and an extremist Slytherin. His attempts in 1st year to befriend Harry Potter on his father's orders to try and find out what had happened to Voldemort were in vain and a fierce rivalry began. When Voldemort returned the Malfoys began to be sucked deeper into a dangerous world and Draco was forced to walk the walk of what he had talked for so long. He failed to kill Dumbledore and his family suffered for it, having to house Voldemort and some of the vilest Death Eaters. Draco's best friend Crabbe was killed during the Battle of Hogwarts but despite everything he escaped alive and to his even greater relief, Voldemort was defeated.

Draco did not return to Hogwarts to complete his final year of school. Nor did he hunt out a job. For a year he sequestered away in Malfoy Manor, only leaving to speak at trials against other Death Eaters to save himself and his family from Azkaban.

The family money ran out fast after the fines they had to pay and without his father's inflated Ministry salary. No one would employ Lucius and his mother was a nervous wreck who had still not recovered from Voldemort's presence in their home, so Draco was forced to find work. At first he made potions and sold them to shops, but the income was limited. Still too shamefaced to seek a job where he might be recognised, Draco did something he nevet thought he would - he got a muggle job. For three miserable months he worked at a fast food chain, then he moved on to a library. Lucius was furious when he found out but they needed the money so there was little he could do.

At first, he hated it only a little less than the fast food chain. It was less greasy, at least, but he was still surrounded by bumbling idiots who didn't have a clue what was hidden right before their eyes and often made jokes about his name. Things changed a few months in, when he discovered that one of his colleagues was a squib, Nathaniel Burke. Nathaniel knew exactly who Draco was, but instead of leaking the information to the Prophet he took it upon himself to teach Draco just how wrong he was. Despite his initial reluctance, Draco was lonely. He hadn't spoken to Goyle or Pansy or any of his old Slytherin friends since the Battle of Hogwarts. He agreed to Nathaniel's proposition to experience the muggle world and avoid an article in the Prophet. Although it was semi-blackmail to start with, the two soon became real friends. Nathaniel was desperate for more contact with the Wizarding World and Draco was just glad for someone he could talk to.

Draco worked at the library for four years, slowly discovering what it was like to live as a muggle through Nathaniel. He found that despite everything he had been convinced of as a child, muggles were not actually that different. They were severely crippled by their lack of magic even if they didn't know it, but they acted the same as wizards and witches. They were still human and they made up for their disability in all manner of creative ways. As he began to make friends with a few other colleagues, Draco became more and more distanced from his family. His father continued to spout a subdued version of his normal anti-muggle vitriol as the Alohomora Party emerged and encouraged Draco to join the League of Emerald. Eventually Draco decided enough was enough. When Nathaniel's flatmate left on a round-the-world trip in 2002, Draco left Malfoy Manor and moved in as Nathaniel's new flatmate in London.

In the same year, the Alohomora Party really came to the forefront with the Squib Rights Bill. Draco heard more about it than ever before due to Nathaniel's interest and after deep deliberation made some large anonymous donations to the cause from his savings. Shortly after the bill was passed, Nathaniel was finally able to get a job in the wizarding world at St. Ursicinus' Library. Draco was left at the muggle library and although he had friends there, it wasn't quite the same. He had been living outside the wizarding world for years and he missed it. Nathaniel encouraged him to get another job. 

Draco applied for many jobs, but his name was still well-remembered and coupled with his lack of NEWTs he was rejected for most positions without even an interview. Even St. Orsicinus’ rejected his application despite Nathaniel’s words in his favour. Draco was faced with being stuck in the muggle world or accepting his father’s offer of a position in the League of Emerald when a lifeline was thrown his way; he was invited to an interview by the goblins of Gringotts. They offered him a job as an investment officer. Although he found the prospect of working with money quite dull it was a route back into the wizarding world and he took it.

He completed his training quickly, if without much enthusiasm, and now advises witches and wizards on where best to place their galleons. Oddly enough, those customers who do recognise him don’t generally have any qualms about taking money advice from a member of the Malfoy family. Having done well at that, his goblin bosses have mentioned sending him to the Ministry for a few small projects. He is dreading the prospect but when he voiced his apprehension it was brushed aside.

Returning to the wizarding world has been stressful for Draco. He has come and is still coming face to face with people he hasn't seen for years, who don't quite know what to make of this new Draco.
